Born in Arles in 1938.
Both his father and grandfather were layers, and the family decided that Pierre should follow in the same profession.After he finished his secondary education in Avignon, he was sent to the University of Grenoble to study law. He had begun to paint at the age of thirteen and much preferred brushes and an easel to the legal tomes of his law courses so when he had completed his studies in Grenoble, he left for Paris, not to practice law but to paint. In 1965 he began a series of one-man shows in Paris, in 1968 Doutreleau watched sports events on tv, he discovered that slight
adjustments of the dial produced blurred images, thought the brilliance of the colors were preserved. In particular he was fascinated by the televised football games. Movement,speed, strength, force, linked to the brilliant color of uniforms against the green grass of the playing fields inspired him to paint a whole series of canvases based on sports, including not only football, but auto and motorcycle racing, basketball, hockey, golf, horse racing and skiing as well. ...
